Introducing Witch hunter Wilhelm von Homburg aka the Mountain Scorge

I love going trough people's bits. There are always gems you never expect. That is why now and then I buy bits boxes etc from places like Ebay or Vinted. I try not to spend to much on it 10/15€ should cover it.

Recently I bought this little fella, a classic Mordheim Witch hunter. Minus some weapons.

All the small things

Greetings one and all,

In the last few years I've shifted my focus from "all over the place" to at least skirmish Projects only and primarily fantasy. Gaming systems don't realy speak to me, more the aesthetics of things. So the nostalgia of 6th edition and Mordheim are a big win 🙂

On a mechanical stand point (what the rules do) I realy don't care. I'd love to do things like rangers of shadow deep or pulp alley. But like I said not a rules kind of guy so as long as my gaming buddy's are not doing it it will probably not happen.

For the meat of my post I would like to take you in to the world of scenery building. Like I said, not going for big projects any more, and I saw gaming spaces shrinking. The new kill team as per example.

So I decided to make a small table using a Ikea frame (as a friend suggested) 90/60cm I believe.

Started out making some scenery here and there basing them all to match. And making some woods to fit them together.

The thing I found most rewarding is "the story go's on and on". For instance I've ordered some 3d prints inspired by the grudge of drong campaign. 3 buildings exactly like the cardboards in the box. Nice. Painted them up, based, flocked... nice

But you know what would be cool, a road in dwarven fashion ...

Or a mine entrance to match
Or ...
So, I keep on building on several tables. I'm sure if I put all of this together it would easily fill a themed table.
I'm enjoying this new approach and will gladly take you on a tour table by table 🙂

The Stirland Piper

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor sigmar cometGreetings one and all,

It has taken me longer then expected to write my next little article.  Real life is a b*tch, with plans changing and time consumed.  My priority in the hobby world is painting, followed by gaming, and in last instance blogging.  So sorry folks; I don't know if I'll be able to do a weekly post or rather a more irregular interval for now. (probably the later)

But on to the business of the day, my Stirland Piper.  It all started with me deciding to have a hobby night with my friend Koen.  With a little less time and lots to talk about I decided to go for cutting and gluing rather then painting.  So on to the bitz box and the quest for the next cool new project.

I see a lot of people (including my self) converting a fantasy model to a 40k theme, but i rarely see it the other way around.  So we had a theme; converting a 40k model for Mordheim ...  One of the models in my collection was the imperial commissar and with some bits and pieces, form my Empire projects I soon had the start of a piper.

My focus for Mordheim is in "the men of the ostermark" but with a Piper; I could not let the opportunity go to include the pied piper story.  So my new hero had to come form some other then Ostermark, visiting Mordheim to clean it's streets.  Stirlands seemd to be the best place to start my expancion.

To complete the job I made a dramatis personae for the model here

The men get a Judge

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor sigmar cometGreetings one and all,
A few years ago I had this “brilliant” idea, that I’ve worked on ever since.  Why are there no Mordheimers in Mordheim …  Where are the people that lived there, that want to reclaim their land be it on true or false grounds.  It’s a time of civil war, the government of Ostermark is corrupt and in disarray, why is no one claiming this region as theirs, apparently there is a lot to be found with all these war bands flocking to city of the damned?

One of my first real fleshed out idea’s was a Judge, roaming  Mordheim to clean it’s streets.  Not like a witch hunter but as a policemen patrolling “his” city …

top left; original necromancer; top right first attempt X years ago
bottom left cleaned up conversion bottom right final conversion concept.

My local gaming group picking up Mordheim again gave me some incentive, as did the “Hired Swords” completion on the Mordheim Facebook group.  (although I misinterpreted there rules and made a dramatis personae J ) To pick up the model once again and get it finished at last after (I don’t know) 12 years or so …

I stayed true to the original concept of the conversion, gave the right arm another purpose and gave him another hat.  The right arm is from a Skaven kit with a repositioned thumb (making left right etc J )  There are a lot of things that could have been better; but that’s what got him stuck in the project box in the first place so overall I’m pleased with the result and glad that he can actually roam the streets of his Damned City …

I even made some rules for Judge Johannes Wagner; not that I claim to be a rules writer or rules lawyer or anything like that. It was part of the challenge :)

so by doing this I completed one of my Bingo goals; finish an old project

The men are planning a game

Greetz one and all,

It has again been way to long.
I'm not making any promises of more posts, but I am giving posting stuff a new chance :)

I've almost converted all I need for a standard human team here are some pictures of linemen so you get the idea :)

Intoducing Burgomeister Idisvald von rotersnee

Greetz one and all.

As I said a few months ago I'm planning on doing some more empire work this year.  Officially it'll be under a Mordheim theme, but I don't know way I'll use the men for at the end.  I just want to see all the work I did at the start of this blog come to a use (finally ;o) So why not start somthing Mordheimy.  At the end Mordheim was the capital of Ostermark so it makes some sence :o)

Today sees the arrival of my burgomeister. The man who claims leadership over the lost city. Although there are a lot of people renouncing his title, he does seem to have several warbands under his banner (all with there own agenda offcorse ;)

The model: He is made of several Empire kits; but I think you can bring it all back to the Great swords, the huntsmen, and some greenstuff ;o)

The paintjob:  I wanted to mimic my other Empire models from way back when I started this blog.  So darkened with some black and highlighted using some white in the mix.

The Game: I’m a real lover of cards these day’s.  The plan is to make Mordheim cards for all my models, so they can act as little independent characters of there own.  I mean to make little individual gang ratings for all models allowing me to choose which leader I’ll use when playing.  Now to find an opponent, preferably one that agrees to this gaming technique ;o)

The men get a new destination

Greetz one and all,

Some of you might remember my ostermark models from a few years ago.  I had this brilliant idea of making me a new army ...  Unfortunately it didn't succeed and ended up on the dust shelf.
Well now, a few guys at the goblins started a mordheim "campaign" and gave me the perfect excuse to adapt my existing models and think about some new ones here and there :-)

And so the strory re-starts.  I've already seen that most of the models are not quite what I'll need in Mordheim (halberdiers are not the chissel I think)  But the haflins are in, as are some of the great swords.  My lord is an option for later on, and the dwarfs are good to go (although they count as regular humans in the gang)  Except for a (I think Middenheimer) Human gang; I'll try and do a witch hunter gang aswell (have a box of flaglants laying around and a converted Witch hunter ready to go)

But let's have a look at some WiP pictures shall we ...

Where are the men at??

greetz one and all,

And indeed where are the men at?

A good question indeed, I intended to make anther update this week and finaly finish the great swords, instead I ended up buying the new box and painting up the skaven.

But don't worry I will eventually get to painting the rest of the empire stuff.

For now I just lack a bit of inspiration :o(

The men meet a lot of halflings these day’s

When I first started this project our warboss (Koen) suggested we (the Golden Goblins) all collect the same army; Empire. Now more then one year later I am the loner still painting and converting my Empire models.

One of the guy’s that joined wanted to make an entire moot army. Steven got 8 models painted up. So my objective for the following few months is getting more mootlanders and ratlings done and painted up then he has.  Maybe this will get him started again ;o)

So you can expect some more of these guy’s passing thru.

Raimy suggested I tell you about the dream tea’s in Ostermark.
Purple mist is a tea to keep the bad spirits out of your imagination. It is made by boiling a amethyst stone and a handful of lavender, usually spiced up with some Bolvic honey and some kreedbeens.

Speedpaint 2 No more mister nice-ling

Greetz one and all,

The men with big sticks

Greetings one and all,

I did some more work on my great swords in the past few weeks and finally slapped a few coats of paint on the Mootlander ;o).

The bases are not done but I’m hoping to get those finished in the coming week. And then I’ll re-do a group shot of the army so far. Don’t hold your breath in anticipation. It wont be that big of an army, if I manage 30 painted models it’s a lot (shame on me). I hope to finish about 750 pts by the end of the year. But with the other 2 project bugging in, it will be a long shot :o)

Greetz

Griffit.

By the way; Raimy (the Mootlander) wishes to tell you if you are even in Ostermark you really need to try the local red herbs tea. It is a mix with stonerose peddles Grom-root and honey beans. It has a nice soft/sweet taste and looks extremely special; kind of like a golden red mist in your glass. Apparently it is very good for a bad stomach, but makes your leaving water look red, wich makes for a lot of confusion for the outlanders ;o)

The men of the ostermark [Empire]

The men rent a mansion.

Greetz one and all,

Those of you that know the Goblins could remember the mansion in the following Picture. Just as I held my spring cleaning, so did the Goblins. With some interesting results for me ;o)

This mansion was made by Jan I think about 5 years ago. Although it looks real cool (and it is) we found it way to big for comfort; on and off the table. Jan did some incredible detail on this piece; every roof tile is separately cut and glued. Jan is a bit of nut case (in a positive way ;o)

I have the sacred task as Mansion Guardian to ward over our estate; but I am planning some renovation and maybe small alterations. But that is for when my lord finally joins on the stage of war.

the men need more men

Greetings one and all,

I’m not one to brag or praise my self. But some ppl on various forums asked me to make a step by step of some mini’s.

Click for bigger pic

1) take a bretonian met at arms

2) chop off at the middle (keep the legs)

3) Add chestplate (knights)
I chose the knights, not that I find them pretty; quite the opposite, but since lots of the detail will be blocked by the sword arms …

4) Add the sword arms (greatswords)

5) Add the head (outrides)
Enter the problem … one box comes with way to little heads; so if you got some to spare; give me a mail.

6) Add some details (various)
To make the greatswords a bit more special they all wear laurels and a lot of other stuff. You can add some more stuff or do some GS work here and there. But I didn’t come to that yet.

Well I hope it’s been helpful for those of you who want to copy.

And number 50 went live ;o)

The men have a general and standard

greetz one and all,

It's been a while since I posted some Empire updates, and you have noticed my general in the speedpaint.  It is not the actual general of the army; but he'll do for now ;o)

Further more I did my first freehand. I was quite unsure if I would take the risk or not, but I did and am quite statisfied with the result.

Some new men

Greetings one and all,

I made some more conversions the last few weeks. Ostermark is stuck between Sylvania and Kislev. So I took some grave guard and first off gave them a more living look ;o), then using the bits available in the box in combination with empire bits created my swordsmen.

Details on the models are still needed; but I want to give them some anti undead symbolism, not sure what.

“We have no need for witch hunters, we hunt our own”

Let me know what you think. the men of the ostermark [Empire]

The men wish you a happy new year

As promissed a new Ostermark update.
Not that much to show; these are all the models in my warband up until now. As expected with such a small band, there is no gaming experience with these guy's. But there soon will be something I hope.

On my to do list for next year is the completion of this army. One of the units I am curentley working on is the grave guard made mortal again; but more on that later.

that's it for now; have to go pick up one of the snotlings upstairs ;o)

The other men

Greetings one and all,

For once I’ll not show my own work but that of my fellow Empire Goblins :o)

Yves men; well actualy just the wizard; the beggar is not part of his warband and was done by steven (I think). I know this is not much to show; but wait till you see the rest of his warband. The hunting party is just Fab

Stevens Moot landers. One just has to love Stevens dedication. It's one of the more special choises and with some great results.

Jan's osterlanders, great colours. The white is real white. It's been a while since I saw Jan so I hope he kept up the good work.

Koen's party. I realy love the butcher. Koen is a man of many projects and lots of idea's, so we'll see how this works out.

The men get a token of wisdom

Greets one and all,

I did some more work on my ostermark force; no real models or extra men for the army. I always like the extra bits in an army; turn counters, objective markers, etc …

I went for wound markers

Simple but effective; I did some with 1 2 and 3 skulls; so in dire need a Skull can represent a wound. But most characters I use only have 2 wounds (3 max) so 1 counter is 1 wound

Spell counters

Again a simple representation, I made 3 counters 1 2 and 3 books, representing my first second and third "remains in play". I have no idea how much I wil use these; but I was working on the lot anyway.

Captured banners

This was a bit less straight forward. I didn't want to use banners on a coin (to little space) so went for the laurels as this is usualy used for banner bearers. and it gives me the opportunitie to use it as objective marker.

I also did some prayer counters (using scrolls); but forgot to take pix. I plan on doing a fleeing counter. More when they all gets finished.

Cheers

Some new men

Greetz one and all,

It has been a while since my last post specially in the ostermark project.
Not that I haven't been busy, for from it. But I didn't think it would be interesting posting yet another halberdier.

This how ever does seem interesting enough to share (at least to me)

the musician for the halberdiers and one of the Imperial Dwarfs "chancellor Boreg of green mountain" (or something like that ;o)

Enjoy
Griffit
