Event: Golden Goblin Paint Challenge

Greetz one and all, It has been a while since I posted something and to be honest I don’t think there will be much activity in the coming weeks. I’m taking some off time from my free time activity ;o) But not to worry I’ll be back sometime in January. But to show you all I’m not gone I’ll leave you with the results of the Golden Goblin Painting Challenge.

This year the goblins painted a model from “lead adventure” and it was quite aparant that we where all doing something diferent with the same model (that is actually the point with the challenge) From experience I know not all of us get the model finished in time, but the point is have fun anyway. When I got to painting my version I didn’t really found my way with what I was doing. I was painting it in green and orange, when I was explaining conversion idea’s to Koen. Once Uncle Sam hit me, I couldn’t let him go. So that same night I finished the conversion and a few day’s later I got a painted model on the table.

Event Crisis 2011

Crisis 2011

Greetz one and all,
For several years we ‘ve been going to this event in Antwerp where you can’t just buy a lot of models from a great deal of company’s but you also get the chance to see other clubs and there projects.  We (the goblins that is) decided to go with a 40k City Scape and play some ItEn.

First up lets look at some of the other tables …
Sorry I didn’t get any of the credits so if you recognise any one please feel free to let me know.

We had a lot of response to our table; ppl asking us how it was made; or even where they could buy this kind of table.  I must say I’m rather proud of the result we got out of this project and I hope we will be playing a lot more games on it :o)

Oh, and ofcorse my loot of the day …

Some skulls from black cat, last bits and pieces for my cowboys and some second hand vostroyans.

Low Lands Painting Competition 2011

Greetings one and all,

Yesterday was the big day, the low lands painting competition. It has been a while since I got the chance to enter a real painting competition. Our club holds regular speedpaints, but this gives a total different experience. At our speedpaints we paint a model in up and about 6hours (start painting round 10.00h, and stop around 16.00h). A real cool experience, you have to give it your all in 6 hours, but you also have to make choices highlight the cloak or work up those gems, you don’t have time to check other techniques, … A regular painting competition gives you that chance, give it your all, take out all the registers . Not that I’m that a competitive beast, far from it, its just nice to go for your best work, for me that is a satisfaction in his own right. I would love to do that for all my models but I also have this craving to get models done, since this terminator took about a month of painting time, I don’t believe I could do this for all my models. But practice gives routine, so I’ll try to do this more often. But enough rambling on to yesterday’s painting competition.

Yves and myself went to Antwerp, as this is the closest GW, to enter the Low Lands painting competition. I must say we had some high expectations. The goblins held some open painting competitions in the past with some very nice pieces in them. I think it save to say Yves and myself are, amongst others, of the better painters in our club. But at the last painting competitons (now a few years ago) we had a real hard time to keep the honors in our club. Bram of the Green Knights always went home with half of the trophies ;o) But this is a GW only competition, with GW publicity, this should make for some big tough guy’s to enter. In short Yves and I didn’t really expect to have a chance.

Overall the completion wasn’t that bad, there where some clear winners, and usually we where able to give a clear top 3 (we were almost always right) except for our own completion 40k single usually the most contested category. 2 really nice FW commissars and a cool Dark Angel terminator was our top 3. In the end I got third place, … me, … I gave it my best and was rewarded. A nice feeling, although as I said before the competition wasn’t as hard as we had first expected.

I’m not sure if I’ll go to Amsterdam on the 10th of April. Bit of a strange thing that the first 3 go to the next round. I was clearly beaten by number 1 and 2, other stores will probably have equal quality, so that means all 2 and 3 are competing to lose. And driving all those hours to Amsterdam just to enter my models and have a look at the town, … I don’t know yet. I’ll have to lose some sleep over it and figure out if it is just the painting completion of maybe a little bit more.

Event; Crisis 2010

Greetz one and all,
I was hoping to show you my sanguinor by now; but unfortunately I had an encounter with father Nurgle in the form of a cold. But enough excuses, I did find my self fit enough to visit Crisis 2011 a gamer convention in Antwerp by the Tin Soldiers. A nice event with lots of spending pleasure ;o)

First a few words on the show; There where some changes this year; no more painting competition and another take on the second hand retail. But I didn’t have the feeling that changing these things added on the other elements of the show. I missed some super “whaaw” tables that I saw in the last years. But for your spending itch, this is the place to be, a lot of things you can’t find in the regular FLGS. And this is the only show in our region where you get your own free model. On to the spending spree …

Black Scorpion pirates and stuff
Last year I noticed Black Scorpion for the first time, I love a lot of there stuff, they have some cool fantasy and real pirates stuff, and there Western stuff is great.

I’m not sure where these guy’s will lead me, but I just had the feeling I had to incorporate some cowboy’s in the collection this year.

Urban war Triads starter set
This should be my easy to realise ordo xenos Inquisitor gang. I hope I can keep this promise
The idea is to keep the 5 samurai, bump the girl and Nurglise the sumu guy.

Perry Twins War of the rose models.
To be honest I don’t know why I bought this set, or what I will do with it. I love the detail and equipment, maybe some mordheim like stuff or something. Nothing big anyway.

Kevin Dallimores Painting and Modelling guide.
I want to get some more insight in the 3 stage colouring technique.

It’s a strange thing this wargaming-thing on one side the historical gamer and in the other corner the GW/IKWM gamers. I hope to find some place in-between ;o)

Speedpaint

Greetz,

The Golden Goblin Speedpaint was this weekend, and I had a tough time getting my mini ready in time. There are a lot of things not quite right, but it was great fun. All in all 15 painters showed up with model and brush and gathered around the table for some collective paint time. It was great fun and gave some surprising results. I hope all competitors had as much a fun time as I had, and the Goblins will be sure to organise a similar thing later this year, so keep your eyes peeled.

I'll post a link to the results later this week

Crisis 2009

Saturday was The Tin Soldiers crisis , all of the Goblins gathered and went on a spending spree :o)
The day was not what we intended it to be; but gave us the possibility to … well just go wild and buy loads of models (exept me I only bought one ;o)

There where many fine tables of fellow gamers …

And some nice new models form various company’s.

Otherworld
I like the kobolts and orks

Black Scorpions
The fantasy pirates are my kind of model; original, realistic and up to size ;o)

Smart Max
Smog 1888
A bit larger then normal but way cool in design; have a look at the shop and don’t forget the Mauser Earth

It was some time ago since I last visited a convention, but I had a great time, saw some great models, and had some nice chat’s with a bunch of people.
